THE SMARTER, CLEANER ALTERNATIVE TO RE-PLASTERING
Lining Paper. Stripping & Re-Lining for a Fresh, Smooth Finish.
Over time, old wallpaper and multiple coats of paint can leave your walls uneven, rough, or cracked. Many customers think they need a full re-plaster, but in most cases, a professional strip and re-line will achieve the same smooth, flawless result at a fraction of the cost and disruption.
At Drew Decor, we use Wallrock Fibre Liner Smooth and other high-quality liners to create a strong, flat surface that looks freshly plastered. Perfect for a clean emulsion paint finish.

Our Preparation Process
Before we start, we take great care to protect your home and prepare the surface properly:
-
Remove and dispose of all old wallpaper and backing layers.
-
Clean, scrape, and sand the walls to remove glue and residue.
-
Repair small cracks and fill imperfections for an even base.
-
Use dustless sanders to keep the air clean and your home tidy.
-
Apply adhesive evenly and hang Wallrock Fibre Liner Smooth with precision.
-
Smooth all joints and overlaps for a seamless surface.
-
Once dry, lightly sand and apply your chosen paint finish.
Smooth, Durable, and Ready to Paint
When done correctly, re-lining gives walls a finish so smooth it looks like fresh plaster. The Wallrock Fibre Liner Smooth we use is designed to:
-
Cover cracks, texture, and minor imperfections.
-
Reinforce weak or crumbly plaster.
-
Prevent new cracks from showing through paint.
-
Provide a breathable, stable surface for long-lasting paint adhesion.
-
Deliver a plaster-like finish ready for clean emulsion.
-
We typically apply two to three coats of premium Little Greene paint for a durable, even finish with depth and richness.
Why Choose Re-Lining Over Re-Plastering?
Choosing re-lining over re-plastering is often the smarter, cleaner, and more cost-effective way to refresh damaged internal walls or ceilings. Here’s why:
-
Quick and clean — usually finished within a few days Can take over a week, plus drying time.
-
No heavy dust or wet trades Creates a lot of dust and moisture.
-
Cost-effective More expensive and disruptive.
-
Strong, flexible liner prevents future cracking. Plaster can crack again as it cures.
-
Ready to paint within 24–48 hours May need weeks to fully dry.

Why We Use Liners
When walls are stripped of old paper or have been redecorated many times, the surface can become uneven, rough, or cold to the touch. Applying a specialist liner gives us:
-
A smoother surface for painting or wallpapering.
-
Better heat retention and comfort.
-
Reduced risk of condensation or mould.
-
A professional, long-lasting finish.
Depending on the wall type and the customer’s goal, we use three main options:
1.
Fibre Liner
Standard Option
Best for: Older walls that just need a smooth, solid base for painting. Fibre liners (sometimes called “Wallrock Fibreliner”) are strong, breathable papers designed to reinforce walls and prevent cracks showing through paint.
Benefits:
-
Smooths out uneven walls.
-
Prevents hairline cracks from reappearing.
-
Breathable and ideal for older plaster.
-
Great surface for painting.
-
Professional, clean finish.
Our Process:
-
Strip old paper and clean the surface.
-
Fill cracks and lightly sand.
-
Hang fibre liner using heavy-duty adhesive.
-
Once dry, we apply your chosen paint colour for a smooth, fresh look.
2.
Wallrock Thermal Liner
Mid-Level Option
Best for: Slightly cold or uneven walls that need a boost in comfort and finish quality. This is a thinner, flexible insulation liner that provides a noticeable warmth improvement without the depth of KV600.
Benefits:
-
Adds thermal comfort and saves energy.
-
Hides small cracks and imperfections.
-
Reduces condensation risk.
-
Quick to apply and great value for money.
-
Can be painted or wallpapered directly.
Our Process:
-
Fill and sand walls for a stable surface.
-
Apply thermal adhesive evenly.
-
Hang Wallrock Thermal Liner smoothly and precisely.
-
Finish with a coat of paint or decorative wallpaper.
3.
KV 600 Thermal Liner
Premium Option
Best for: Cold exterior walls, north-facing rooms, or problem areas with condensation. The Wallrock KV600 Thermal Liner is a 6mm thick insulation liner made from fleece-like material. It acts as a thermal barrier between cold plaster and your room air.
Benefits:
-
Significantly reduces heat loss through walls.
-
Warmer rooms and lower energy bills.
-
Helps prevent condensation and mould growth.
-
Softens sound and improves comfort.
-
Can be painted or wallpapered over once installed.
Process:
-
We prepare the wall and ensure it’s clean, dry, and stable.
-
Apply specialist thermal adhesive evenly across the surface.
-
Carefully hang the KV600 liner, butt-jointing each panel.
-
Smooth out joins, then cross-line or lightly sand for a perfect finish.
-
Finish with paint or wallpaper of your choice.
Which One Should You Choose?
For cold, damp, or north-facing rooms, the KV600 Thermal Liner is best for insulation and comfort. For slightly cold or uneven walls the Wallrock Thermal Liner is good for warmth and value. And for old, plastered walls needing a smooth base, Fibre Liner smooths and strengthens ready for painting.
If you’re unsure, we’ll inspect your walls during the quote visit and recommend the best option for your space and budget.
Aftercare & Maintenance
Treat walls as normal once decorated — paint and wallpaper will last longer. Avoid steam exposure for at least 48 hours after completion, and enjoy warmer, smoother walls for years to come.
