Top 5 Paint Brands

Buying a good quality paint means less coats of paint, less amounts of paint and less time applying the paint. Yes, The good quality paint will be more expensive but you will need less quantity and the paint will be longer lasting. You do the Math. Here are our top five paint brands:

5. Crown Trade

What they say:

Crown Trade is our premium quality professional paint brand, widely used by contractors, decorators and builders. It is specified for use in domestic and commercial environments by specifiers looking for quality, colour choice and market leading advice and service.

What we say:

Crown Trade is a great paint. I would recommend their Clean extreme product for ceilings and walls. I feel that the oil based paints for wood work could be better.

Score: 3 out of 5

4 Farrow and Ball

What they say:

We have set ourselves aside from other paint companies by creating a product of quality, using only the finest ingredients and rich pigments. Not only do we take pride in how we create our products, but also in how we treat our people.

What we say:

Farrow & Ball is one of the most expensive paints out there. We do use the paint from time to time but we have found you need that extra one to two coats just to make it cover better and make it solid. This obviously makes the cost of labour and materials more expensive. But if you are looking for that certain look this paint will be right for you. Farrow & Ball only produce water based paints, but I must admit the eggshell and gloss for wood work is the best water based paint I have used for wood work. Also the colour range is outstanding.

Score: 4 out of 5

3. Valspar Trade

What they say:

Valspar's mission is to be the best coatings company in the world as judged by our customers, shareholders, employees, suppliers and the communities in which we operate.

What we say:

Big statement. Yes the emulsion paints for ceilings and walls are excellent but I would only use the Valspar Trade version. Its more expensive but totally worth it. The thing is with Valspar is that they only produce water based paints and the paints for the wood work isn’t quite up to standard just yet.

Score: 4 out of 5

2. Dulux Trade

What they say:

The mission of our Flourish brands is to add colour to people's lives, so we encourage all people to join us on this colourful journey. Let's Colour!

What we say:

Dulux Trade has been a strong paint brand for many years and probably the most known and go to paint. Emulsion paints for interior and exterior are excellent and the oil based paints for the wood work is also good.

Score: 4 out of 5
